Well thus far I have scrambled up Mt Peak in Enumclaw twice. What a great conditioner, it really wakes up the lungs!
The first time i brought the dogs and no pack. Kind of a pain in the ass; the trail is very busy and narrow. Too many other dogs for a leashed hike. But it was still fun and a great workout
The second trip was without dogs and a 15# pack. Much more focused on the training element. I used trekking poles on my decent. Great knee saver!
Mt Peak is 2 miles round trip with about 1100 ft gain. It is a very popular trail with the locals. Everyone is very friendly and the parking is ample. It took me about 35 minutes up and 25 down. I saw Kelbo both times and he tells of a "hook loop" that is harder around the backside if you are feeling froggy. Maybe eventually...

Ok, Rattlesnake ledge report. Brady and I climbed this yesterday morning. It was a bit chilly, but below the snow level. Very pretty trail with lots of ferns, moss, forest, and generously peppered with huge boulders. The trail starts off gradual for the first half, providing an excellent warm up, then it steepens with switchbacks. (Still not as steep as Mt Peak) We were rewarded with a spectalular view of the area at the ledge.
ReplyDeleteThis portion of the trail is 4 miles roundtrip with about an 1100 ft gain. With a 15# pack it took about an hour up and 40 minutes down.
